What began as one man’s hands-on love for building has grown into a trusted, family-run business rooted right here in North Richland Hills, Texas.
A Builder at Heart – Marvin Smith’s Journey
The foundation of Smart Buy Homes started with our founder, Marvin Smith, whose love for building began as a teenager working construction jobs and testing the limits of every tool in his parents’ garage. That childhood curiosity turned into a full-fledged career in custom home building starting in 1969, driven by Marvin’s unmatched dedication and hands-on knowledge.
From framing homes to designing luxury custom builds, Marvin’s mission was always the same: create homes that stand the test of time and serve the families who live in them.
How Smart Buy Homes Was Born
Between 2000 and 2008, Marvin introduced a unique offering to his luxury home clients: the opportunity to “trade in” their current home when purchasing a new one. This simplified the buying process by removing contingencies, costly repairs, and real estate commissions – all while offering one seamless closing.
He personally renovated these homes and resold them, often providing owner financing to make homeownership more accessible. The success of this win-win model evolved into what officially became Smart Buy Homes in 1990 – yes, the name came after the method!
